DIMPLES AND TANGLES READS: BOOKS I'M LOVING LATELY {6}

Hello friends!  I have a new round of books I'm loving to share with you today.  I can't keep up with sharing these as quickly as I read... I already have two other lists I've read through and need to get written up! I love to read.... check the end of this post for links to my previous suggested books if you've missed those.

The Rom-Commers, Grand Design, Night Road, First Lie Wins, Our Darkest Night, Beneath the Surface, Worst Case Scenario, Summer Romance, Bonhoeffer, Secret Book of Flora Lea, Rocky Road, Uneasy Street

As a reminder, I'll give a brief summary here (enough to tell you I recommend the book!) without a lot of details, but am linking each book here out of convenience if you'd like to read the more detailed summaries.  However,  I generally check them out from the library, either the physical copy or digital copies through the "Libby" app and then upload them to my Kindle account (or you can read directly through the app).  If you're not familiar with Libby I highly recommend it for free e-books and audiobooks by registering with your library card.

Rocky Road by Becky Wade- A cute, clean little beach read romance with a bit of suspense as well.  Combine an FBI agent with a perfumer who is posing as his girlfriend as he is undercover on a case... he's a rule follower and she's more of a free spirit, so things get interesting! Second in the series, I mentioned the first in one of my previous book rec posts.

Uneasy Street by Becky Wade- I went ahead and followed it up with the last in the series, this time the story centers around the last son of father Felix Camden, the product of a hurtful affair decades ago.  Max reunites with a former friend and business partner (under somewhat false pretenses) when she rents his garage apartment to stay in while she is caring for her niece. Their friendship ended on poor terms, so Sloan despairs at being "stuck" as his neighbor for the summer.  Things don't go quite the way Max planned as these "frenemies" spend more time together.  Forgiveness is a good underlying theme in this one!

Worst Case Scenario by T.J. Newman-  I've mentioned her previous novels in other posts, so I couldn't wait to read this one as soon as it was released.  After suffering a heart attack, a commercial airliner pilot crashes into a nuclear power plant.  As the aftermath unfolds, plant workers, emergency crews, and the community must all work together to avoid potentially the greatest disaster of modern times. I've loved each thriller from this author, can't wait for the next one!

Our Darkest Night by Jennifer Robson-  WWII historical fiction about a young Italian Jewish girl who seeks protection by marrying a young Christian stranger.  An aspiring doctor following in the footsteps of her father, she must now live her life disguised as a farmer's wife as they naviagate life together, growing to know and trust one  another.  As their relationship deepens, they live among constant scrutiny from others as well as the authorities.  I enjoyed listening to this one on audio.

The Secret Book of Flora Lea by Patti Callahan- another story that takes place in Europe during WWII tells of two sisters evacuated from London.  While staying with their host family, the younger sister unexplainably disappears while playing along the banks of a river. The story continues on with the older sister as she grows into an adult with the contanst wonder of what happened to her sister, and the fresh questions raised when she receives a book full of imaginary stories she used to share with her sister that only she would know. A fresh resolve is birthed in her to find out what really happened to her sister- and if she could possibly still be alive.

The Grand Design by Joy Callaway-  If you're familiar at all with The Greenbriar Resort and its decor, it's no surprise that I'm a big fan of decorator Dorothy Draper's designs!  This was a fascinating historical fiction novel that depicted what her life designing the iconic hotel might have been like.

Summer Romance by Annabel Monaghan-  Ali's life has fallen apart around her.  We follow along as she works to put the pieces back together, meeting someone unexpected in the process.  I enjoyed Nora Goes Off Script from the same author a few years ago, this was was an entertaining read as well!

Beneath the Surface by Lynn H. Blackburn- Emergency responders, a serial killer, a bit of romance... the first in this clean suspense/mystery series.

First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston- This thriller will keep you on your toes as you learn of secret identities, questionable motives and alliances, and mysterious relationships. A good one for audio listening.

The Rom-Commers by Katherine Center- A successful rom com screenwriter steps in to help another writer (a writing legend that she has always been inspired by)  who while reknown, wrote a flop of a rom com script.  He is resistant to her guidance but she is persistent and a personal relationship develops as they work together on their professional task... I always love Katherine Center for a fun, lighthearted read!

Bonhoeffer by Eric Metaxas- how's that jump from a light rom com to a biography on one of the 20th century's leading theologians? Ha!  Ray read this one a few years ago, and I wanted to read it before we planned to see the movie that came out late 2024.  I enjoyed learning more about this influential pastor, writer, and WWII spy who conspired against Hitler.  (As is often true, we preferred the book to the movie!)

Night Road by Kristin Hannah- After doting on her teenage children and devoting her life to raising them well,  Jude and her family's lives are completely torn apart by one stupid decision.  This was a gut wrenching tale of the choices we make, their consequences, family dynamics, and the long road to forgiveness.  Excellent, I haven't been disappointed by one of her books yet.
