Well hello there friends!! It doesn't seem like it, but it's been a little over a month since I've been with you here! We had a nice holiday season and have been getting back into the swing of normal life. It's a fun time to be back... we get to talk about all of the Valentine-y things! My porch looked pretty sad and empty for a week or two after I cleared out all of the Christmas, but I spent some time here and there the past few days working on it so now it's a happy little Valentine's Day Porch-
I've had some unfinished wood craft hearts in my holiday stash for a couple of years, and decided that now was the time to use one of them for a cute DIY heart door hanger. It was an easy, fairly quick project and I'm so pleased with how it turned out! I'll share a simple tutorial below.
Supplies I used: Craft Wood Heart, Flag Red, Pink Eraser, and Metallic Gold Craft Paint, Circle Template (I used a mason jar lid), Gloss Sealer here or here, X O Chip Board Letters, Craft Glue or Wood Glue, Fine Gold Glitter, Paintbrush, Ribbon

1) I bought this craft wood hanger at Hobby Lobby for a few dollars, they have the cutest cupcake one too! 2) I brushed on 2 coats of craft paint, it dries so quickly it made this a fast project. 3) I wanted larger polka dots than the circle sponge painter that I often use so I grabbed a jar lid to trace. 4) I moved the placement of a few dots after I started so you can see some places in the photo where I erased- I'll fix that! 5) Brushed in the pink dots- 2 coats.
6) I did some light handed red paint touch ups where the circle outlines that I erased were visible. It was still drying here so it looks a little splotchy but once dry it's all even. 7) For a more finished surface I sprayed on a coat of sealer- I like glossy but any clear coat will do. If you have white/light colored paint make sure your sealer says "non-yellowing". 8) I also bought these chip board letters at Hobby Lobby. I wanted to glitter them but painted them with a coat of gold first just in case there were any spots that showed through. 9) Any glue will do- I just used my finger to spread it over the letters so I wouldn't have to clean a brush- ha! 10) I love this fine gold glitter, I've used it for several things like my FA LA LA sign (and for Valentine's Day, I did XOXOXO on the back!) After the glitter was set, I glued the letters on with some wood glue.
Of course I added a bow, and it's done! So pleased with how it turned out and with the supplies I already had on hand I think I only spent around $5 for the heart and letters.
I always pull out my faux topiaries for some green this time of year in between Christmas and later in the Spring when I can put ferns back on the porch. So much from Christmas is easy to carry over in to Valentine's Day- those big bows on the topiaries were the ones on my mantel garland at Christmas.
I've had these little felt hearts from Dollar Tree for several years, I added some pom poms with hot glue and tied them on the ginger jars. Those were a last minute find from Tuesday Morning before it went out of business. 😢
The lions got their fancy ties back on for Valentine's Day, these were pet accessories that I altered slightly to fit their necks.
I'm enjoying this little bright cheery spot amid the dreariness of winter! Early next week I'll share some fun Valentine's finds with you and show you a few spots inside the house all decorated for Valentine's Day.
