The last big project that my Dad finished was a laundry room makeover for my Mom. He hand painted a faux brick floor, installed new wallpaper, created a mud bench and coffee bar space, and they had new countertops installed. After the big projects were done, the room still needed some new accessories and organization pieces to make the space even more functional. I shopped the 50-66% off Seasonal and Home Decor Departments at Hobby Lobby and found just what we needed to finish off the space.
While spending lots of time at my parents' home over these past months, my sisters and I helped with plenty of loads of laundry! After pulling laundry pods out of the original package and always having to hunt for dryer sheets that were stored across the room, I knew some handy storage containers were needed. These pretty glass canisters are perfect for the job, and I used a small crystal bowl from her cabinet to hold the color catcher sheets she uses. The raised legs on a pretty wooden tray allowed me to span the tops of the washer and dryer seamlessly with her laundry supplies and other
home decor accessories.
I'm a long time fan of these faux ranunculus stems, they look so real! Bending up most of the stems into the bottom of this container transforms the long single stems into a charming petite bouquet.
My Mom's Dad always used to call her "Little Rabbit" as a nickname so I thought this bunny was a sweet addition, and she doesn't have much empty wall space so the stand alone clock was just right as well.
A natural bamboo hamper is handy for containing kitchen towels and household linens waiting to be washed, and the design on the cushy, comfy foam mat perfectly complements the faux brick floors that Dad hand painted during the makeover.
While going through old photos Mom came across this darling shot of her with her sister when they were little. So precious! But often these old photos are odd sizes and difficult to find the right frame or mat that won't cut off any of the photo. This glass paned metal edge floating frame was the perfect solution! A variety of odd sized photos can be centered in between the glass within a more standard size outer frame.
Mom loves having the photo on display now and seeing it every day. I love real orchids for the longevity of the blooms, but eventually they do fade. One of my favorite tricks it to keep the pot with the real leaves along with the stakes and clips from the bloom stems, then add in a few good faux orchid stems. I think the real leaves make the faux blooms even more realistic. Remember to keep watering the pot and you just might get some new blooms some day too!
We are all spoiled with this big new sink in the laundry room! I found some nice hand soap, linen ironing spray, cute containers, protective acacia wood boards, and cheerful hand towels to finish out this space.
Across the room Dad cobbled together some existing pieces they had to make room for a coffee bar and mud bench.
Mom has enjoyed the space she gained on her kitchen counter by moving a rarely used coffee station into this room instead.
But you know what I predict will be the big hit here? The chewy Sprees that I picked up from the checkout line and added to a darling candy jar... they'll disappear fast when the grandkids discover them!
The mud bench is the perfect little drop zone right by the garage door. That adorable tote style sturdy woven basket is one of my very favorite things from Hobby Lobby and Mom loves the cute bike pillow.
I found just the right size and style of basket to fit in this little sliver of space beside the bench to corral a few pair of slip on and gardening shoes, and this pretty sage colored woven rug blends in nicely on this side of the room.
My mom was thrilled with all of the new pieces and how much more functional- and cute!-they made her space. Check out what's on sale this week or stop by your local store to scoop up some good deals, especially in the Spring Shop clearance!
