The Dining Room itself gets a few Christmas decorations- vintage ornaments tied to the chandelier, satin bows atop plates on the wall, and Christmas dishes and ornaments in the china cabinet- but the main focus is on the table!
As I said in Part 1 of my tour, this year I've kept a super colorful Christmas palette, but removed some of the darker, bolder colors and focused mainly on pink, red, light blue or turquoise, and green- all with some of my blue and white pieces mixed in. It was fun to see what I had to pull together a Christmas tablescape in those colors!
I'm kind of a one trick pony when it comes to Christmas table centerpieces... I will always love a tray piled with candles and loose ornaments! I may change the shape or size of the tray but for the past several years for sure this has been my go-to. I also try to use faux or cut greenery that will last most of the season so I won't have to worry about changing out fresh flowers. Lastly, with this long runner-style centerpiece I can leave it in place when I clear away the dishes, leaving us room to still use the table for homework or other projects when not in use for meals.

Another favorite trick of mine is to use wrapping paper as a runner. It's totally customizable, inexpensive, and just toss it when you're finished! So I layered a strip of red mini dot wrapping paper with a gingham cloth on top. It's actually just a tablecloth that I folded under into the size of runner that I wanted.
The pink dishes are a new to me vintage set that I picked up from FB Marketplace, I left Thanksgiving at my inlaws for about 10 minutes to run pick them up- ha! I knew as soon as I saw them that I'd want to use them on my Christmas table. It's a Homer Laughlin set and from what I've read this was a common brand used in restaurants. It has a pretty gold laurel leaf trim but since I'm sure they took a lot of abuse if they were formerly in a restaurant I've put them right into the dishwasher and they've done great! I'd really love to come across a few more pieces (I have full place settings for 6 plus a few extra pieces, would love to have 8) but they're tough to find online! I'll have to keep my eyes peeled at thrift stores from now on.
A few vintage ornaments are tied to the chandelier-
And heads up, they also carry prints just like the blue heron and pink flamingo that I used in my bathroom makeover, as well as several other bird prints in that series.
Beeutiful as always Jen! I so look forward to your emails! Re this new china, can you show a closer look so in case I find it in my area, I can let you know. Thanks!! MERRY CHRISTMAS to you/family!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Julie! It's really just a pink border with a small gold leaf rim around the white center. The plate looks just like the small bowls to the left of the plate stack.
DeleteI have one little pink plate with the gold laurel that must be a dessert size. I adore it! I have it hung in a random collection of other dishes in a bathroom. I'd love to find more of it!
ReplyDeleteOh I bet that looks great!
DeleteI love your tablescape as always, Jennifer. Great job. I wish I had purchased the little reindeer at Hobby Lobby this year. Maybe they will have them again next year. I have fallen in love with retro vintage. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThanks Miche! They do have them again this year. They start clearing out everything pretty fast around this time, though, so don't wait too long!
