IT'S A COLORFUL LIFE- SPRING HOME TOUR 2020: PART 2

Welcome back for part 2 of my Spring Home Tour!  Last week I shared my Living Room and Porch with you and was so pleased that many of you replied that it was a little bright spot in your day.  We've been getting some glorious Spring teaser weather days, but this is another chilly, gloomy, rainy week so I'm happy that things are cheery on the inside of our home at least!

Today let's start with the Entry.  It's a small little space that is open to the Dining Room and the rest of our main living area, and honestly not much has changed here in years!  Sometimes I swap out the rug and lamps and the styling on the dresser changes, but the dresser and mirror- both second hand and painted for a makeover- have stayed put for a long time.

This year for Spring I just pulled together a lot of my favorite things and layered them all in together to style the dresser.

I've shared the story of the vintage  tobacco leaf lamps and am still so grateful to have them.  A few weeks ago (actually I think it was on Valentine's Day!) my husband and I stopped by a garage sale and I found this little boy and girl bust pair.  They're a little larger than another pair I have and I was happy to add them to my collection.  I've never seen some at a yard sale before.  They were worth the 30 degree temperature and freezing, numb fingers that morning!  ;)

I enjoy this time of year when I can display these hand painted eggs that we bought in Poland several years ago.  The craftsmanship is so intricate and I love the sweet boy and girl in their traditional outfits.

I used my faux/real trick for the pink orchids, and will share more about those with you in an upcoming post.

Now let's take a peek at the kitchen!  I have one little wall to hang things on in there, and it just got a makeover.  For years I've had a big chalkboard calendar in this spot (here's how it looked before), but noticed I wasn't doing a good job of keeping it current and was ready for a change there.  My husband sweetly ordered this poster for me off of my Valentine's Day wish list,  I've loved the pink and red combo for years.  When considering where to hang it, I decided that this would be the perfect spot!  I bought a basic black frame and took a while to decide if I wanted to paint it.  I decided to try to match the print and this spray paint is the perfect match for the pinky-coral-red color in the poster.

I added some visual weight by hanging a collection of plates above the print.  It was fun to pull these out of the cabinet so I can enjoy seeing them every day!  The yellow cabbage pieces are a recent Facebook Marketplace find that I just used on my Easter Tablescape too.

I made one other small change by painting the moulding on the pantry doors.  When I painted my cabinets white, we had just been on a trip to London and I was so inspired by all of the gilding and gold trim everywhere that I painted that bit of moulding gold.  I liked it while it lasted but lately decided that I was ready for it to blend in with the rest of the doors.  Here it was before-

and with a quick trim paint job.  I like the fresh look- the gold trim tended to just look brown in most lights so the crisp white moulding is a nice change, especially with that explosion of color that's on the adjacent plate wall now!

Here's a peek turned the other way towards the breakfast nook-

Speaking of the Breakfast Nook, I recently shared a little mini-makeover in there with a new round table.  It's getting a workout now with multiple family meals per day and being used as a study station, work space, Zoom meeting spot, and game playing surface!

I also recently shared our Dining Room with the table all set for Spring in a fun tablescape hop with some Instagram friends where we all used our cabbage ware dishes in the mix-

You might have noticed I've added in some pops of bright yellow all over the house for Spring.  The Master Bedroom was no exception, see more here.

  2. I give you all the credit for upping my color game. I’ve incorporated blue and yellow into my former 2005 gold/red/green world. Even leopard print lives here now and it looks fabulous. Thank you for inspiring me with every post!

    Your home is a masterpiece!
