A NEW LOOK FOR OUR BREAKFAST NOOK

I don't know about you, but Spring brings the itch for change for me! So this year, that change came in the form of a new look for our Breakfast Nook.

Actually I can't blame this change on Spring, it's something I've been thinking about for a while.  I've been toying with the idea of switching to a round table in our kitchen eating area and intrigued by how it might open up the space.  I've always liked the mix of a round tulip table with modern or vintage chairs, so when I saw my friend Julie post on Instagram about this new table (alternate source) she bought it turned my "thinking about it someday" into seriously considering a change!

I mentioned the idea to my husband and he was totally for it.  We thought a round table would really open up the space as opposed to the antique table we've had here for years that really filled the entire space, and it was always a tight squeeze between the windows and table for whoever was sitting on the back side of the table .  (BTW the old one is a sentimental table so we won't get rid of it, just store it for a while until we have another use for it.)

I was also excited about breaking up some of the brown in this spot... brown table, brown chairs, brown brick floor... loved the idea of throwing something lighter into the mix without painting the old table and chairs.

The top is simulated marble and has a stronger veining pattern than I expected, but it looks fantastic!  (It comes in a solid white top version as well if you don't like the marble.)  It's highly polished and looks like glass from the side when the light hits it right.  And I can't begin to tell you how heavy and substantial this table is.  The top came in a huge flat crate and we had to recruit several teenage guys to help us get it in the house and set up.

I'm pretty sure the mix of the white top with the brass base is what sealed the deal for me.   It's super heavy also, I really couldn't lift even the base by myself.  This is a table that stays put once you get it where you want it!

For now, I'm leaving the seating as is.  I might move the bench some day and just use chairs (although I literally have no where else for that bench to go and I don't want to get rid of it!), paint the chairs... who knows??  But I'm enjoying the mix for now.
