Out with the old, in with the new! A while back I mentioned in this post that I had found a pair of club chairs to take the place of our leather recliners that we were ready to switch out. Well, they're back from the upholsterer and have made quite a difference in the look of our living room! Without further adieu... take a look at my new hot pink velvet club chairs! (*This post contains affiliate links, read my full disclosure policy here.)
I'm so happy with how they turned out! And honestly, even though it was exactly what I wanted, the color was quite shocking at first! It took me a few days to get used to them but I'm so, so pleased with the color and the statement it makes in the room.
As a reminder, here is the before. I kept the skirt and everything else basically the same but I asked the upholsterer to make the back a box cushion edge rather than the rounded edge.
It's hard to tell in the photos, but I worried that the back cushions were just a bit too wide when I first got them home. I still think I'd like for them to be about an inch narrower on each side, but I don't know if it bothers me enough to go to the trouble of having them redone. I'm going to live with them for a while and see if they relax a little bit.
I bought the fabric locally from The Fabric Factory, all I know is it was called Velluto Velvet. I searched for it online but couldn't find it anywhere. I also tried a good number of samples of hot pink velvet while shopping online for fabric, but didn't really find any I liked. Of the ones I tried, the colors were either off or I didn't like the texture of the fabric. So, sorry I don't have any fabric sources to share with you.
I'm planning to make some lumbar pillows to fit the chairs out of this same leopard fabric, just haven't had a chance to do that yet. I'm telling you, the cats LOVE these chairs.
Seriously, the chairs are like magnets to them... I can't keep them off! I think they think they have 2 new fancy cat beds just for them. #nope Thanks goodness for this super handy tool, and several of my friends on Instagram raved about how much they love this for pet hair on upholstery as well. I mean... these boys are rotten! :)
I couldn't be happier with them in the mix of all of my other colors. It's not shown in these photos, but I don't think I could have done these had I not painted my fireplace white last year. The hot pink definitely wouldn't have worked with the original brick color. I can't wait to see my Christmas decorations this year with these bold new beauties in the room!
I have been shopping for some chairs like this for probably 2 years. I considered having some custom made but I never could find the style+fabric I liked for the right price. So, I kept an eye out for a pair with the right lines that I could have recovered. While still an investment by the time the cost of chairs, fabric, and labor is considered, I still came out ahead of custom. If you're considering bold pop of color on an upholstered piece, here are a few options that I found online although similar chairs ready-made are a little tough to come by.

ReplyDeleteThanks so much Julie!
DeleteHello - you certainly picked the right lounge chairs, beautiful. I am curious on the cost to reupholster a chair that size with that hot fabric? Boston pricing would easily have been $1000 a chair, or more.
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy how much prices vary across the country! These were $325 per chair. :)
DeleteChairs are an incredible color, but the cats are the outstanding feature! I think you live and decorate "their" home. Love them!
ReplyDeleteI think they agree with you... ha!! They are pretty cute ;)
DeleteI love your use of color and how you have pulled everything together!
ReplyDeleteWhat size are your curtain rods? 1" or 2"? Source? Thank you.
Hmmm, I think they're somewhere in between 1-2". It's a wooden pole from the lumber department at Home Depot! I can get the exact length I want, then I paint them whatever color.
DeleteThe chairs are amazing and I like them so much more for you brown leather as the color seems like you. But, my favorite part is that your cats coordinate with your pillows on the chairs!
ReplyDeleteYes, animal print on animal print!! Thanks Cindy!
Deleteoh my goodness love love love!!
ReplyDeleteYou did an amazing job on these two new chairs. Love the kitty photos.
ReplyDeleteI love both the shape of the chairs (they look so comfy) AND the color. I am a color person, for sure, so I appreciate how you decorate. This summer I carried a purse the color of your chairs and an amazing number of people commented (favorably) on that purse. LOL ;D)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. The kitties look like lumbar pillows! :)
ReplyDeleteI so enjoy looking at all of your posts. You have amazing creative and decor talent!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, love them! I also just got 2 pillows at Pier 1, in the exact same cheetah fabric! AND, got them on sale! I have been searching for some for years!!! SCORE!!!
