About 2 months ago I marked 6 years of blogging, and a new look for the blog has been long overdue around here! I've been so excited about this new blog design and couldn't wait to get it up and running to share with you. I wanted a cleaner look with more features to make things easier to navigate, as well as past projects easier to find.
Do you like the new header? I made it myself and am pretty proud if I do say so! I scanned a piece of gingham scrapbook paper and my favorite Kate Spade table runner into the computer and used the images for the design.
FEATURES
I'm really happy about a couple of those menu tabs, namely the "Projects" and "Lifestyle" options. By hovering over those more options are opened up, and you can choose smaller categories that you might be looking for like "DIY Projects," "Recipes," "Tutorials," etc. My hope is that these categories will make archived posts easier to find, and browsing more fun!
I'm only including certain broad, most popular categories on the menu bar, but if you'd like to see the complete list of all post categories for even easier searching, scroll all the way down to the bottom of any page and they are all displayed there. Click away on the category you'd like to see posts for.
In an effort to streamline things, my most current post will still be displayed in full on the home page. However, older posts will be truncated, which means that there will be a post title and just a little of the beginning of the post with a photo, but you will need to click the "Continue Reading" button to keep reading the rest of that post.
Did you know that the biggest compliment you can give a blogger is to share from their blog? That tells me you valued my material and appreciated it enough to share it with your friends. And if you do that, I can't thank you enough! I've added a new feature to make sharing a post incredibly easy. Just click the icon at the end of the post for the platform you'd like to share the post to.
COMMENTS
I'm sharing this because it took me a little while to notice it, and I didn't want anyone to miss it like I did. If you're scrolling down the home page and you'd like to comment, there's no longer a "Leave A Comment" link, but a comment icon at the end instead. It's at the end of the post in the group of "Share" icons, shown below. So, just click on that speech bubble and comment away!
Another note on comments, I will be replying to comments directly in the comment section. When a reader leaves a comment, I very rarely get an email address attached with that comment, which leaves me no way to respond directly. So, if you're looking for a response, or particularly if you've asked a specific question, be sure to check back later in the comment section for my answer. I'll try to reply as timely as possible, but please always feel free to email me your question directly if it's more urgent (use that handy "Contact" tab on the top menu bar!).
MOBILE VIEWING
There's one other huge change that I'm probably the most excited about, and that's the new mobile design. I know my old design was so, so bad when reading on a device, so if you're reading on your phone or a tablet I hope you love the new look! There are also menu options, social icons, and easy sharing buttons on mobile formats now too. I know that more of you read on your phones than any other device or even desktop, so I hope this is much simpler to read and navigate for you.
SUBSCRIBE
Lastly, you'll see a box at the end of every post if you'd like to subscribe to my blog. By entering your email address, you'll receive notice each time there's a new post up on the blog. In addition to sharing, this is biggest compliment you can give me, letting me know that you never want to miss a post, so thank you so much if you subscribe by email!
Over the next few days I'll be continuing to tweak a few small things here and there, so as you look around please let me know if there's anything that appears out of place or doesn't seem to be working well on your end. I truly appreciate the time you spend here and want to make your reading experience as pleasant as possible!
Alright, I think that's all of the highlights, I hope you like the new look! I do want to give a huge thank you to Rebekah of The Lady Gadget. She did an amazing job helping me customize my new design and was a joy to work with. If you're a blogger and find yourself in need of technical help, she's your gal!
Enjoy your weekend everyone. I'm finally getting around to adding a few Fall touches inside the house and on the patio, I'll share next week!
Jennifer, I love the new look! I think my favorite thing is that the Menu bar stays with you so you don't have to go all the way back up the page to see it.
