2014 - A LOOK AHEAD

I'm not very good at making goals.  I always have a list in my head of what I want to accomplish, and slowly but surely chip away at that.  However, nothing is ever official because surprise projects pop up and my plans change often!

So, here are four biggies that are on my radar this year.

1) My Master Bedroom Makeover.  This is the third year that I've had this on the list.  I've got the plan all designed (in my head!) and we've made an ever so slow start by painting the room and selling old furniture.  I've even got a pretty good stash accumulated of new things I want to use, now it's just a matter of getting busy with the sewing, painting, and arranging!  I'll share the plan with you sometime soon.

(a little peek of the paint...everything else needs some attention!)

2) My Son's Room.  Another oh-so-slow work in progress.  It needs a major clean-out, organizing session, and new paint.  I also have an upholstered headboard planned and hopefully a fun wall treatment, along with some DIY custom artwork.  Lots to do here!

3) Back Yard Landscaping.  Our front yard got an overhaul last summer, and now the back yard needs some major attention.  We're thinking a fire pit with sitting area out towards the back of the yard with lots of new trees and plants.   Also, the pergola and this entire area/bed needs to be ripped out and re-done.  We really hope to knock this out through the Spring so we can enjoy it through the rest of the Summer and Fall.

4) New paint for all of our living areas. After almost 7 years of living here, it's time to freshen it up.  We have a very open floor plan, so new paint means everything gets it...the kitchen, living room, dining room, entry, and hallways.  It will involve painting the ceiling of all of those areas, too.  No small project.

In the immediate future, I have two small-ish projects I'm excited about.  I still have to finish staining the other 3 of these chairs darker, and then the back is getting a little facelift.  I'm going to experiment with adding a fun fabric without disassembling the back.

Then, I've had this pair of ottoman/stools for almost a year, and I'm dying to tear into them.

Here's where they're headed:

In addition to those major projects planned, I also hope to share lots of easy, very do-able ideas with you as well.  So, regardless of your DIY comfort level, I'm hoping there will be something for everyone here!

On a side note, if you need a plan for dinner tonight I made Julie's Tastes Like Chick-fil-A's Tortilla Soup last night.  Yum!

  21. The pergola is so pretty - sad it has to be torn out. When you have a chance, will you remind what that watercolor-ey fabric for your bedroom is? I really love it and think it could be the perfect bit of color and whimsy my dining room needs! Depends on the new rug, but I really love it!

  24. Our bedroom has been our list since we moved in 2012, and we still haven't done a lot in there. Funny how that happens, isn't it? I think because nobody sees it except us, I can kind of forget about it.

  25. Excited to follow along! I would love to paint all our living areas this year too!
