CRISP SHEETS {JUST ONE THING}

I did something yesterday that I've never done before.  I ironed my sheets.  Actually, I just ironed the top border of the flat sheet and the pillowcases, but it was enough to make a difference!

Usually I'm not concerned about my sheets being pressed...clean is good enough for me.  But I picked up this cute new Trina Turk sheet set at the Dillard's extra-off clearance sale, and you know once they are washed they never look as good as they did in the package.  I don't know why the edges always end up creased and folded after the wash, but a little starch and spray from the iron did the trick.

So, I took 10 minutes to spot-iron the sheets, and a few more to make my bed pretty.  Just one thing improved my space, because believe me there is nothing else pretty in my bedroom right now!  One of these days I'll get to it.  It's all done in my head...and it's good!

Even though it's random pieces put together, I have been living with mostly-white bedding for a while.  That's my plan for the new room, and I'm loving it!  You know there will be plenty of color starting with those nightstands in other spots, though!

Periodically I'll be sharing other "Just One Thing" ideas with you that are quick, easy ways you can improve your space.

  1. You're not going to believe this ~ that is exactly what I do with mine! I iron about 1/3 of the way down my flat sheet. I know people think it's crazy but it makes me happy, too! :) Can't wait to see your bedroom updates!

  2. I think I am going to love this series. ;) I was making my bed the other day and my king shams look terrible! They were so wrinkly that it didn't even look like it had an edge on it. I even thought about ironing them and wondered if it was overkill. But, a beautiful bed makes me happy so you are right...it is so worth it! And it's not like we have to do it everyday...just after washing...you are a smart woman, my friend and I like your style. ;)

  4. Looks cozy!! I think you should put some ribbon around your lampshades. For some reason tiny touches to me are just so you! I love how you always have every touch in place

  5. I love that detail on your pretty new sheets! Ironing does make them so luxurious. I do iron a bit of the sheets when I'm having guests stay over, particularly the pillows! You're inspiring me to iron our own sheets, they are in the wash right this instant! I like this idea of "Just One Thing"….look forward to more great ideas from you!

  7. I try to avoid ironing at all costs. ;) I hate it that much but you totally have a point and I just might be able to iron the edges. The bedding is gorgeous/

  8. This little peek into your room looks good already! Lovin the "just one thing". It is always the little things and sometime just one thing can make all the difference. I love that you just ironed the edge, cause really, why do the rest. Good thinking!

    1. Hi Heather! It came from a local fabric store. :( However, I am almost positive that this is the same fabric. The color is listed as "chocolate", which throws me off a little, because mine is black. However, this sure looks black to me in the photo! http://maryjos.com/fabrics/drapery-hotel-collection-chocolate-8717

  11. "Iron" is a four letter word! :) Seriously, I understand how it makes a difference but I'm not there yet with sheets. LOL The first apt I lived in was eons ago, first married. It was a garage apt, owned by the small little town's bank president. His wife ironed everything ~ including his underwear! I was so shocked! Had no clue that could be a part of marriage. :)

    Your decor looks beautiful! Of course, I adore black & white.

  12. I love those sheets! I think I would iron the pillow cases too! The trim is so classic and timeless. Sometimes it's the little things, isn't it?

  13. I've had sheets before that needed that extra touch - not sure I ever took the time though! I love the way you have your bed made and I would definitely have ironed those sheets to get that look!

  14. I now have a bedspread. It literally covers the entire bed, linens and all. Now in the guest room, I have the sheets showing, etc. I have a set of non cotton sheets that come out of the dryer looking pressed! Might not be super great cotton, but I don't have to iron. When I did, I did the top 1/3 trick also!!

  15. Occasionally I iron the the tops....but mostly I just do it in the guest room:) Love you bedding.
