Good Monday Morning Everybody! Thank you all so much for your suggestions for an accent color in my office. The room is coming together and I hope to show it to you soon. Still organizing a bit and working on some finishing touches.
Today, I just wanted to leave you with some pretty pictures. I've been trying to figure out where I really want to settle on decor lately and how I want to define "my style," whatever that means!
For a while after looking at so many beautiful blogs I was so drawn to images like these:
I couldn't love photos of a good neutral room more, but have decided for ME, in MY house, they just don't fit. These are all drop dead gorgeous rooms, but I crave color and can't quite feel like a room in my house is complete without a good dose of it.
I also tried to stick to a very set color scheme like these rooms, but found that I really wanted to add in more colors and not be tied to a specific palette:
Please don't get me wrong...I LA-HUUUUVE every one of these rooms! Tobi Fairley??? The best!! I've just been trying to refine the direction I'm headed in my home.
Lately I think I'm finally coming to terms with what I really like and how I want to decorate. These images are a huge inspiration to me now:
I think every single thing about this photo is perfect (Christmas is 4 months away!!).
And, the Southern Living cover that we all drooled over...
I love the eclectic collection of things, the colors, the "anything goes" approach. I'm really trying to embrace the "buy what you love and it will work together" mentality and put it to work in my home. I've been making some changes that some may think are out on a limb, but I'm sticking with doing what I love and not just what might be pretty and right for someone else. So excited to show you some new things in the coming weeks!
What about you? Do you have a die-hard love of neutrals? An obsession with color? Or are you somewhere in between?
This made me smile BIG this morning! Do I dare say my neutrals are looking a little too neutral to me! Ha! LOVE your inspiration pics and can't wait to see what you've been up to!
ReplyDeleteYou understand me completely! LOL! I love the look of neutral too, but just know in my heart I cannot live that way, but oh it is so pretty when done right. I also adore color schemes, but find myself unable to commit to one for long. I know, that's a lot of BUT'S in these sentences, what can I say? I am very excited to see what you are doing as I love all of your design choices so far. In short, I guess I am somewhere in between!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh I could have written this post. I LOVE all these rooms you featured…the neutrals and the colorful ones. In my current home I am really trying to lay a neutral foundation so that I can change up the colors over the year or whenever I need a change. I was so tired of being tied to a specific palette in our former homes and it's so FREEING to be able to use whatever color flowers, pillows, or tableware without having to consider my curtains, etc. I need the energy of color in some form, but I have learned a pop here and there is perfect for me!
ReplyDeleteI adore what you've done with your home and how you infuse color into your spaces, Jennifer!!
PS I NEED that black & white chevron tablecloth and pretty much that whole room in general for Christmas this year! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm back from the abyss...Lol...and what a great post to return to. I think your observations of yourself are excellent. I love each of those rooms, too, but loving something doesn't mean it actually WORKS for you and your home. I tend to be a bit more neutral for the majority of the house (mainly b/c things are so chaotic with a hub, 3 kids, a puppy and all I have going on, I need it to be visually calming), but have a few (and want more) punches of color for the front 1/2 (living room and my studio).
ReplyDeleteI've told you a million (almost) times: You can do no wrong. I love your eclectic, happy style. It's cozy, inviting and non-boring (but not even close to gawdy. Ha!) Always classy.
Hope you had a great summer. Has school started for your kids?
Well, I MUST have color! I added a photo to my blog today of a few that I'm adding right now and amazingly, it's not red & black. :) I think that homes with whites and neutrals are beautiful, as are the photos you shared, however I cannot live in neutrals. Color makes me happy! Edie's home is a visual delight and I could walk right in there and be happy. I feel the same about your home too.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your changes!

I do love neutral rooms the most, to look at in magazines, etc. But Im like you, color wins out every time, and I find I must be surrounded by lots of it.
ReplyDeleteI have a quiet almost neutral bedroom but the rest of the house is colorful.
Enjoy the process!
