The very evening we returned home from our trip I was busy making pom poms. It only takes a few minutes per pom, you can see my simple tutorial here.
At first I thought I'd hot glue the poms on, but them decided to tie them on in case I ever wanted to switch out the colors. I left the piece of yarn that ties off the middle of the pom long, then carefully threaded it through the weave of the basket from the front.
Then I tied it off inside the basket and trimmed the ends. Repeat for the number of poms that you want and you're all finished!
So for the $10 basket price and yarn I already had, I have a happy new basket.
I've been wanting to do this project for a long time, and was just waiting to stumble across the right basket to use. In the mean time, my friend Jen did her own version... check it out here!

Love this basket and it would look great in my living room ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the basket. I need to make a trip to Ikea too, it is quite a drive for me so I only get there a few times too. Thanks also for the tours shout out. They have been totally awesome so far.
ReplyDeleteI can't find this on the site. Do you know it's name?
ReplyDeleteI'm not quite sure what you're asking...? What are you looking for?
DeleteI would love to make this basket! Thanks for the inspiration! Since I live over 200 miles (and have to pay $20 in tolls, too), I am trying to find the basket online through IKEA. Did you keep your receipt so that we can know the item "name" or product number? Would love to avoid a 5 hour trip (not to mention the gas/tolls)!
Deletep.s. The nearest HomeGoods is over 200 miles away. My struggle is real when it comes to decorating in the boonies.
DeleteIt kills me that there is not an Ikea closer to me!! That basket is a dead ringer for the real thing. Looks so great, Jen, and thanks for the link!
