DIY POM POM NAPKIN RINGS
Recently I was working on a project that needed a little extra oomph, so I came up with this quick DIY project to add the color and wow factor that I was looking for.
Anything is better with a pom pom, right?
All you need to make this adorable napkin ring is a cardboard tube, wide ribbon, yarn, glue, a utility knife, and scissors. I used a wrapping paper tube. It was a little larger than a paper towel or tp tube (without the ick factor of a tp tube... these are going on your table, after all!).
Trace the width of your ring around the outside of the tube, just a hair under the width of your ribbon. Cut carefully around with an exacto or utility knife.
If it bothers you to see the edge of the ring, use a sharpie in a color close to your ribbon to color the edge. When the ribbon is on, it will only be barely visible from the side, so that's an optional step depending on your preference.
Cut a length of ribbon to fit around the ring. Do you know the trick to keep the ends of ribbon from unraveling? Hold the flame on a lighter right next to the cut end of the ribbon, so it's almost touching it. It will start to "melt" the ribbon just a bit, sealing the edge. Just be careful not to get too close and burn it!
Attach the ribbon to the cardboard ring using fabric glue or hot glue.
Now, you'll need a pom pom. If you don't know how to make one, I've got a simple tutorial here. They're so easy!
Glue the pom pom over the ribbon seam and you're finished.
The multi-colored yard was perfect for my project, but these would be so fun in holiday colors, soft solids, or even creams and whites for a neutral palette. A change of color would give them a whole new look while keeping the texture and fun factor.
When the family is gathered for your next holiday, you could have the kids make these early in the day as a craft project. It would even be interesting to have a variety of yarn and ribbon to let everyone (adults included) make their own and see how they all turn out!
Can't wait to show you where these ended up in a few weeks!
