HOW'S YOUR IRONING BOARD COVER LOOKING? {JUST ONE THING}

It's time for another installment in my Just One Thing series, where I focus on simple ways to make your life just a little bit better.  Whether it be trying something new that you might not have considered before, or finally getting around to doing that chore you've been putting off, these ideas are meant to be quick and easy!

When's the last time you've thought about your ironing board cover?  I'll let you in on one of my dirty little secrets...

Mine was bad.  Like B-A-D!  I'm almost sure it's original to the house...which is almost 20 years old.  And after seeing that photo I'm sure you won't disagree.  It needed to be changed when we moved in almost 7 years ago, and it's one of those things that just kept getting overlooked.

The main problem was the size.  This is the first house where we've been fortunate to have a built-in ironing board.  When I would actually remember to shop for a new cover, they never had the right size in the store.  And, an Amazon search yielded very boring or too expensive options in the size I needed.  So, on a whim,  I picked up a standard size cover at TJ Maxx and tried it out.  The smaller tapered end fit perfectly, but the other end was a bit too long.

To solve the problem, I whipped out my scissors and trimmed off the end.

Then, to secure it, I put a few staples on the bottom of the board on that end, and I wedged the cut end under the end of the board and put several staples in the side of the board to secure it there.

I realize that covers are meant to be removed and washed, but let's face it...I used a ratty cover for 7 years, so if I need to pop out a few staples once in a blue moon, wash it, and staple it back I'm ok with that.

It's amazing how much more fun, and easy,  ironing is when you have a cute fluffy pad instead of a dirty, ratty barely-covered hard board!

  14. I need a new ironing board cover too! Especially when I want to do some sewing tutorials and some of the tutorial involves showing how to press a part of the project! I change mine when I remember to buy a new one or if I break down and make one so it's out of fabric that looks ok in photos!

  16. I FINALLY did this this year too! I had the thinnest, ugliest cover ever - and it never did fit right. It was always sliding off. But the new one is SO pretty - it makes me happy just to look at it! Kudos to your new cover!
