We recently had some new friends over for dinner, and I pulled out an old recipe for dessert that I haven't made in a while. This one will make your mouth happy! It is really easy, but each layer needs a few hours to freeze, so make it early in the morning for dinner or even the day before.
Chocolate Sundae Pie
Ingredients:
30 Oreos
1 cup margarine or butter, separated
1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream (I really like the cheapo-kind in a box for this!)
2 squares unsweetened chocolate
1 cup evaporated milk
1 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 carton Cool Whip
Chocolate shavings or Chopped nuts if desired
1 cup margarine or butter, separated
1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream (I really like the cheapo-kind in a box for this!)
2 squares unsweetened chocolate
1 cup evaporated milk
1 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 carton Cool Whip
Chocolate shavings or Chopped nuts if desired
Crush the oreos and mix with 1/2 cup melted butter. (I do 6-7 at a time in my mini-chopper, but if you have a food processor that would be perfect!) Press in the bottom of a 9x13" dish and freeze.
Soften the vanilla ice cream until it's spreadable, cover the oreo crust, freeze.
Mix chocolate, evaporated milk, 1/2 c. margarine, sugar, and salt in saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly (enlist a willing assistant to help stir!). Boil for 3 minutes. Cool at least 30 minutes and then spread on ice cream layer and freeze.
Cover chocolate sauce with Cool Whip or real whipped cream, garnish with chocolate shavings or chopped nuts if desired. Freeze one last time and take out a few minutes before serving.
Watch it disappear!
